Feed an AI everything by James Joyce, and you'll get a thousand sequels to Ulysses. Every last one of them will be meaningful and impactful. I believe that the first super-human AI-produced book will be so groundbreaking, so amazing, and so epic that people will cry upon reading it. It will put to shame even the best human-created books of all time.
I've written eighteen books. Honestly, I can compare writing a powerful story to playing a good game of Go. The thought that goes into such an endeavor is not qualitatively different, just quantitatively. While Go has a trillion or so possible outcomes to navigate, a book has almost infinite. But not truly infinite.
I want to read a book written by a super intelligent AI. In fact, I can't wait to read a book written by a super intelligent AI. An AI smarter than a human can process language at incredible speeds, and produce an entire book series in seconds--a book series that could rival Lord of the Rings or Wheel of Time. This will a) increase the quantity of available material; b) increase the quality of material and c) allow for complete customization. You want a YA novel about a dinosaur going to Mars and meeting Shrek? The AI will give you that, and make it compelling. And even better: insert three of your favorite books or series and the AI will mash them up for you and produce your dream book. Also, the AI will be capable of writing a series ad infinity. This means no waiting for Winds of Winter! All you can read! Minimal cost! Books so good they'll reform your perspective on everything!
So I can't wait. I want superhuman AI to happen before the world ends. Then I can finally read the ultimate novel.
