Do you want to own the means of production? Buy stocks!

 The idea that "the worker does not own the means of production in a capitalist society" is a misconception at best. There are two easy methods for a common worker to "own the means of production." Number one: start a small business. Buy a food truck and, boom, you own your own means of production. Buy a tractor on a farm and boom, you own the means of production. I think that the non-material idea of "means of production" as espoused by communism is flawed in, among others, this critical part. It's not possible for one person to own every piece of a supply chain! 

The second way for you, a normal person, to own the means of production is to buy stock. When you buy a stock in a company, you literally own a percentage of that company. And owning stock is really not that hard if you want it. Each company pays dividends to its stock owners. You know that record profit that you keep complaining about, as if that profit is sucked up and never given back? Yeah, if you own stock in the company, you get a piece of that profit! Buy a single 100$ stock in a company, and you get profit! But you complain "a dividend is tiny! They're keeping most of the profits to themselves!" Well, there are literal millions of people who also own stocks in that company. "Shareholders" include your 401K and everyone else's. Pension funds, wealth funds, and other investments. You are a shareholder! When you complain that shareholders get all the profit from a company, you forget that you're probably one of them, and if you aren't, it's easy to become one!

So don't make the argument that people under the capitalist model are sucked dry for the profit of the elite. The common man has as much stake in the big corporations as the CEOs and billionaires. Stocks are the way in which a capitalist society "spreads the wealth." Sure, the more stocks you own, the easier it is to buy more. But just filling out your 401k is taking part in this system. So no complaining about those record profits going to the big wigs only. Through dividends, you get that money!
